The
Mediterranean Sea, the Greek blue and the unique light in Greece,
are three essential gifts of growing up on a Greek Island. They
are all fundamental to my psyche needs and are present at all
times.
Deeply ingrained memories may not fade but after living in the
US for a few years I became aware that there was something amiss
in the relation to my source of energy. Having to reestablish
the connection I began playing with images of Greece and emulsion
transfers.
The process of emulsion transfers goes beyond capturing a moment
in passing; being able to revisit my image and create yet a new
one is what takes me on a gratifying journey.
As I play with the emulsion, the subject becomes alive in my
hands.
Throughout the process I am again a part of the culture and the
land I so love and miss. I feel the light, I see the colors, and
hear the waves again. I am transferred to Greece for a brief,
yet long moment. It is my love for this country that I try to
convey in the new image. The dream-like, almost surreal feeling
portrayed in my images reflects my memories of landscapes, people,
scents, sounds and life in Greece. The abundance of being, the
implausible sensation of freedom, are once again alive and breathing
through my images.
A form of unspoken magic unfolds as I become aligned with who
I am.
Thus I maintain my energy....
